The Havre girls’ basketball team won another Eastern ‘A’ Divisional Championship last weekend, which included two come-from-behind victories over Hardin and Lockwood and was capped off by a gutsy championship game that went into overtime and was won against Miles City.
New Media Broadcasters talked with head coach Dustin Kraske and he commented on the epic weekend that was for his squad.
“I thought our kids persevered (and) showed a lot of heart (and) enthusiasm,” Kraske said. “The games were difficult. We knew they would be. The Eastern ‘A’ tournament is very good and our kids did a nice job.”
The Lady Ponies will have an entire week to game plan before heading down to Butte for the MHSA 2024 State Class ‘A’ Girls’ Basketball Tournament in Butte. Kraske said what the team will be working on the most to be ready for the biggest challenge of the season and trying to capture an elusive fourth state championship in a row.
“We have to continue to work on our mindset with the understanding of possession basketball,” Kraske said. “I thought our kids did that very well down at divisional’s and had the ability to move on quickly from the last possession to the next one.”
“We’ll just work to get a little better in the next week since we play next Thursday and have work to do our best and be our best,” Kraske continued.
Havre will open up on March 7th against Browning, which is a rematch of a regular season contest held back on Dec. 21, a (73-42) Lady Ponies road victory.
