Havre Man Dies in Crash while Police Pursue Stolen Car

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A 26-year-old Havre man died and two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that happened as police pursued a car that had been reported stolen.

Early Sunday morning, Havre Police officers located a Hyundai Sonata that had been reported stolen from Rocky Boy in Havre. The Havre Police Department reports that officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the male driver accelerated at a high rate of speed. They pursued the vehicle eastbound on Highway 2 and ended the pursuit after they lost sight of the vehicle.

Minutes later, an officer spotted the vehicle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed entering Havre from the east. As the suspect vehicle approached 1st Street and 14th Avenue, it collided with another vehicle.

The driver of the Sonata died at the scene. His passenger and the driver of the other car were taken to Northern Montana Hospital.
