Havre Man Sentenced for Domestic Assault

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – A Havre man has been sentenced to 54 months in prison and three years of supervised release for assaulting his girlfriend on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation in 2018.

U.S. District Judge Brian Morris ordered the sentencing of 44-year-old James John Russell McConnell on Monday in U.S. District Court in Great Falls.

The prosecution said McConnell, who has been convicted of domestic assaults on three other occasions, broke his girlfriend’s nose and verbally threatened her in Hays in June, 2018.

The 54-month sentence will be served consecutively with a 7 month sentence for violating release conditions of a separate conviction.

The case was investigated by Fort Belknap Law Enforcement and the FBI.
