HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – After Havre’s City Council meeting Monday night, the Ordinance Committee met to discuss a few issues. The meeting was well attended and several people voiced their opinions throughout the evening.
The Committee made some language changes to the ordinance that regulates temporary signs in private yards. The got rid of the distinction between political signs and other signs and gave all temporary signs 60 days to be displayed. They also added a requirement that the date the sign was posted must be written on it. They passed these changes on to the full Council.
Their second item was changes to the process to fill vacant City Council positions. They changed some of the application requirements, making their statement of administrative philosophy and a resume mandatory. This item will also go forward to the full Council.
The final item was the Vacant Property Registration Ordinance. The Committee made changes and the ordinance will go to the City Attorney for review. They changed the definition of vacant property so that storage units wouldn’t be considered vacant. They also cleaned up language regarding exemptions. Many people spoke in favor of the ordinance, though a few people were against it. If the City Attorney approves the language in the ordinance, it will go before the full Council.
