Havre Public Schools Board Of Trustees Meeting

(Havre) – The Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting on Tuesday night. The board heard from Brett Duval with Trans Tax, who made a presentation to the board about potential tax rebates for the electric busses that are currently utilized in the district.

The board unanimously passed entering into a three-year contract with Trans Tax pending approval of the contract language by the district’s legal counsel with the Montana School Boards Association. In other action the board approved the Teamsters contract with the district for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years, and they approved a request by the Future Farmers of America club at the high school for out of state travel.

In his report, Superintendent Brian Gum informed the board of a few items. First the daycare that Havre Public Schools offers will be having its first-rate increase for childcare in the history of the daycare. Havre Public Schools will also open eligibility for the daycare to school board members and coaches who do not work for Havre Public Schools. Superintendent Gum also reported that the stage repair project at Havre High School is almost finished.

The school board approved spending up to $25,000 of Elementary and Secondary School Relief Funds for the stage repairs. The stage project cost was only $5,000. Superintendent Gum and HPS Facilities and Transportation Director Scott Fillius were able to take the remaining $20,000 of the ESSER funds. and change the scope of the project with the Montana Office of Public Instruction for roof repairs at Havre High School. Finally, Superintendent Gum reported that the structure behind Blue Pony Stadium that was utilized when MSU-Northern was playing at the stadium, will be removed by the district before the start of the 2024 high school football season.

The next meeting of the Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees will be on Tuesday August 13th, 6:30pm in the Havre Middle School assembly room.
