HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Public Schools Education Foundation has extended the deadline for scholarship applications from midnight April 1 to midnight April 15.
Havre Public Schools Education Foundation Executive Director Cheryl Morse says they are extending the deadline in part because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re getting a couple a day. So it is getting up there, but the number of applicants at this point is quite low. We’re kind of assuming the reason is because of the situation that the students are facing. Having not been in school for two weeks, everything is a little more difficult to deal with.”
Morse says these scholarships present a great opportunity for students and there is a lot of money on the table that they would love to award.
“It’s really a great program. The kids go in and do one application and then they can check off one of the 30 or 10 of the 30, however many scholarships they qualify for, and then they have to go with the specific requirements for each different scholarship.”
There are 24 separate donors that provide 30 different scholarships opportunities for students. These scholarships award over $32,000.
Morse says about half of scholarship winners are selected by the donors themselves and the other half are selected by Havre High School, which means occasionally they will have students receiving more than one scholarship.
