HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees convened on Tuesday night for their regular monthly meeting and approved their budgets for the fiscal year that runs from July 1st, 2021 through June 30th, 2022.
The budgets for the elementary schools total roughly $11.65 million, while the budgets for the high school total roughly $6.63 million.
The budgets are similar to the previous fiscal year, with slight increases and decreases in some areas.
Also approved was a collective bargaining agreement for this school year with the Havre Paraprofessional Education Association, as well as numerous policy updates in accordance with changes in state law.
Superintendent Craig Mueller also discussed potential plans for spending COVID-19 relief funds following the conclusion of a public survey. Ideas include mental health initiatives and equipping buses with wireless internet.
Current State Representative and former Trustee Ed Hill provided public comment. He requested that all policies go through at least two readings before the Board unless there is an emergency. He then cited a recent statement made by Superintendent Greg Gianforte emphasizing personal responsibility as a reason masks should be optional at the District, although this item was not on the agenda.
The Board will convene next Tuesday at 6:30 PM for a special meeting, where they are expected to vote on whether to require face coverings on District property.
The District is currently seeking the public’s input on face coverings, and has a survey available on their website.
