HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A hemp processing plant will be coming to Havre this year. Vice President of Operations for INDHemp Morgan Elliott says that they recognized a gap in the market between producers and consumers and have been working on creating a hemp seed processing plant in the area. They would specialize in food-grade seeds and oils.
“And so the products that coming out of our facility, besides seed, if farmers want to buy seed from us, is the oil. And that’ll be filtered and cleaned. Which is really good. They use it in salad dressing, a lot of different food components. They use it in, like, lotions and cosmetics.”
Elliott says that May 1st is the deadline to get licensed to grow hemp through the state, but they may extend that deadline.
“May 1st is the deadline for the license from the State of Montana to produce hemp. We have talked to the State Department and they have said that they will allow for some extensions since they just came out with the rulings last week. You know, there’s been some debate about what the fees are going to be.”
Their new building in Havre is just west of Wal-Mart. They will start construction soon and they hope to be up and running by this fall.
