Hill County Commissioners to run road mill for second time, this time with key changes.

(Havre) The Hill County Board of Commissioners approved a motion to once again run a ballot issue asking county residents if they would willingly increase their taxes in order to cover road maintenance expenses.

Hill County Commissioner Mark Peterson says this would be the road departments first budget increase in decades.

“If you go back in history, and I’ve said this before, I’ve gone back to the mid-seventies and there has not been any increase in the mills after that mid-seventies time frame. Other than some minor increases just on inflation, we’ve never asked for an increase. We’ve been operating the road department on that same amount of mills for all of those years”

Peterson says that this time around there’s been a couple key changes, the first being the wording of the resolution now states “up to 38 mills”, instead of the flat 38 mill guarantee last time, and the second being to make the resolutions life span 10 years, whereas before it was indefinite.
