According to recent reports Montana is experiencing low unemployment, additionally Census reports reveal that Montana has the highest elderly population west of the Mississippi. These factors are contributing to what many employers in Havre and across the state are experiencing, a labor shortage.
Ashley Callahan the general manager at bear paw meats agrees that there is a labor shortage. However, she has had success in maintaining a full staff. She explains the approach she has for hiring employees, and how she has managed to beat the labor shortage.
“Well right now because our foundation is so strong, people that we’re looking into, we definitely want to have them have something that is beneficial to them when they join our team. We want to look at a personal aspect, as well as accomplishing for our business, so then it is a cohesive union that there is a big reward for our employees, as well as the business.
