(Big Sky) Idling your car could be costing you more money and your health according to a report by Argonne labs.
Idling, meaning any time your engine is running but your car isn’t in motion, costs more than 6 billion gallons of fuel at a cost of more than $20 billion to consumers and businesses each year says the organization.
The National Institute of Health also says that emissions from a vehicle left in idle are toxic to humans, and polluted air is leading cause of asthma in young children, saying that even living near busy roads increases a child’s risk for asthma
To reduce idle time, Argonne says to turn off your engine when running it is not truly necessary, and that retrofits such as air heaters and auxiliary power systems can fill the gap of heating needs.
