HAVRE (NMB) The inaugural Literacy Under the Lights will be Thursday, September 22nd from 6 to 7PM at the Havre High School football field.
The brainchild of this event is Lincoln-Mckinley principal Holly Bitz who was inspired by other states with similar programs but was unable to implement last October because it was too cold.
Bitz is trying to avoid weather being a problem and says there is a backup plan if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
“In case of inclement weather, we will hold the event in the Havre High School gymnasium. Just in case we have rain or major weather, you never know.”
Schoolchildren in grades K through 5th are encouraged to bring a book and blanket. Bitz says the Havre PTO purchased 800 books for the event so each child will get to keep a book.
Bitz hopes Literacy Under the Lights inspires more combined subject events for different age groups.
“We may be doing more combined events to promote maybe math, or science, or something else.
Free popcorn and water will also be provided. Bitz says children do not have to be in Havre schools to participate, just be along the Hiline.
