Investigation Details of East Glacier Mass Casualty Incident Unveiled

EAST GLACIER, Mont. (NMB) – The Glacier County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding the ongoing investigation into the mass casualty incident Sunday in East Glacier.

The victims have been identified as New York State residents David Siau, 39 and his 18-month-old daughter McKenzie.

They were fatally shot by 37-year-old Derick Madden of Goldsby, Oklahoma. Madden was killed himself after 30-year-old Christina Siau of East Glacier, fatally wounded him after being attacked with a knife.

The incident began at about 9 PM, when Madden allegedly drove his vehicle intentionally into a group of pedestrians, one of which he had a prior relationship with. Madden crashed the vehicle into a tree and exited it before opening fire with a shotgun.

Two other minor children were able to escape without suffering injuries.

Investigators say Madden was suffering from mental health issues, and that the attack was isolated to this incident with a clear nexus between Madden and the victims.
