(Washington) (Written by Kendall Brown) – As tax season wraps up, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reminds taxpayers there is an easy way to get a tax filing extension through the Free File Program.
A tax filing extension guarantees the taxpayer six more months to file with an extended deadline of October 15th.
Even though the extension gives extra time to file, it does not extend the obligation to pay taxes due on April 15th. In order to avoid penalties and late fees, those who owe should pay either their full tax bill or at least what they can afford to pay by the end of the April 15th deadline.
