Havre, MT – Sophomore quarterback Kendall O’Neal showed flashes in his first start despite the loss last week.
The currently number 11 ranked team Dickinson State came to Havre last week for a match up at Tilleman field against a Montana State University-Northern Lights football program that was down their starting Quarterback in Ashton Platt. Platt went out with an injury in the second game of the season at Montana Western.
The next man up for Northern? Sophomore quarterback Kendall O’Neal from Arlee Montana. O’Neal earned the start for a big matchup against Dickinson State, who at the time was ranked number 13.
In his first start O’Neal threw for more yards than Northern was averaging as a team through the first two games. O’Neal threw for 153 yards a touchdown while completing 10 of his 21 passes.
O’Neal’s touchdown pass was the first score of the season for Northern and it came by way of a 48-yard heave down the sidling for Isaiah Woodly.
However, Northern could not pull out the home win and fell to the Blue Hawks 33-16.
Lights offensive Coordinator, Dave Sandau, said “Kendall is a young guy who is growing into the position every day. I’m very excited and proud of Kendall O’Neal.”
O’Neal and the lights are on the road this week at the College of Idaho on Saturday at noon. You can find the Live stream link on 2025 Football Schedule – College of Idaho Athletics or Watch Urban Edge Network
