The Chinook Sugarbeeters Girls Basketball Team completed their 18-0 undefeated season Saturday Night at Fort Benton. The Sugarbeeters defeated North Star Friday (44-43) to win the 9-C Conference and Fort Benton (43-35) the following day.
Both games were close throughout, with Chinook and North Star coming down to the wire. Hallie Neibauer scored a game high 31 points in the one-point victory. The next game on the road at Fort Benton was a gutsy win for the Sugarbeeters. Chinook trailed at halftime (25-20) and didn’t have a lead from the opening (2-0) start until midway through the third quarter. The Sugarbeeters defense locked in, forcing 24 turnovers in route to the come from behind victory. Neibauer scored a game high 28 points in the win.
With the Chinook offense struggling as a whole, Neibauer scored over 70% and 60% of her team’s points in the victories. Complete dominance from the Junior, who would have a well-earned spot on the All-Class C Team if such an award existed. A great team achievement by Coach Mike Jones, Hallie Neibauer, Alexis Seymour, Bree Swanson, and countless other Sugarbeeters who were able to make this undefeated season into a realty.
The real games begin now, however, with the District 9-C Tournament set to begin on Wednesday February 15th in Havre. Chinook will be the #1 seed, and will tip off at 1PM.
