Law enforcement in Montana has a unique law titled mutual aid that allows any law enforcement entity to assist another.
Sergeant Jay Nelson with the Montana Highway patrol explains the law.
“We have a very good mutual aid is what we call it in the state of Montana. That any law enforcement agency as long as that mutual aid is requested all law enforcement in Montana helps each other, and that’s what makes our state so great. We have a large area to cover and no one agency can do it and so all of us working together towards a common goal.” -Sergeant Jay Nelson
