MSUN and MMA are coming together on Saturday for “Lights Out At The Dome”. This is a joint fundraiser for both the Montana State University-Northern Wrestling and Women’s Basketball programs. Chris Mouat, the Skylights basketball coach, details what will be happening at the Havre Ice Dome and why it is meaningful for both wrestling and women’s basketball.
“We just try to provide an event that is unique to Havre,” Mouat said. “Our promoter does a good job of getting good fighters to put on a big event.”
“There’s a giant big screen TV,” Mouat continued. “We try to recognize all our sponsors and advertisers because it is a big thing for both programs.”
Coach Mouat explains how the women’s basketball program has jumped on as a team player in this event to help wrestling out with their element.
“This is the sixth year of ‘Lights Out At The Dome’ and we’ve been able to jump on board with (wrestling),” Mouat said. “I’m so thankful for them for allowing us to do it because we started off with a minor role and then the next year we picked up our role and now we are partners in the deal, which has been a lot of fun.”
The main event is a bout between two fighters from Montana. Gage Saunders is fighting out of Great Falls and his opponent, Delane Lamere, is representing Missoula. Coach Mouat said that Lamere was also at last year’s event and his roots are even more prevalent because of his result from then.
“Lights Out At The Dome” will be on Saturday, August 26th at the Havre Ice Dome with nine fights on the main card. Doors open at 5:30pm and the fights begin at 7pm.
