HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Department of Commerce has revealed the projects that have received award recommendations for grants through their Delivering Local Assistance Program.
This is the first year of this grant program, with the Montana Department of Commerce doling out more than $21 million for infrastructure projects for communities and schools.
Hill County was among those awarded grants, as they will receive over $270,000 for electrical and communication system updates for their detention center.
The city of Cut Bank will be awarded $352,400 to rehabilitate a failing lift station at their wastewater plant.
The city of Havre had applied for a nearly $500,000 grant for replacing water mains, but that grant was not accepted.
Other local grant applications that were not awarded included water projects for Harlem, Fort Belknap, Fort Benton, Sunburst and Shelby; bridge replacements in Chouteau and Phillips Counties; and a rehabilitation of the Liberty County Courthouse.
No schools in our immediate area were chosen for a DLA grant.
This includes Havre Public Schools, who were hoping to receive $750,000 towards renovating their high school science labs and addressing air quality and asbestos issues.
Other schools and districts that applied for but did not receive grants includes Malta School District, Chester-Joplin-Inverness School District, Chinook School District, Cut Bank School District and Turner Public School.
