HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Democratic State Representative Jacob Bachmeier is back in Havre after months in Helena. He says they were able to pass a lot of good bills, even if some compromises were made.
A prime example of this is with the Medicaid Expansion bill this session that continued health care for 96,000 Montanans. In order to pass the bill, the Democrats had to add working requirements and income verifications in order to get the Republicans to vote for it. While he’s happy the bill passed, Bachmeier believes these extra requirements will only create more paperwork and create wasteful spending.
He also said they were able to pass the first bonding bill in the state in fifteen years, which includes water projects in are area, as well as allowing MSU-Northern to raise money for new improvements.
However, Bachmeier was disappointed that bill extending the public preschool program was tabled.
