HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The Office of Public Instruction has announced grant award recipients for the Montana Comprehensive Literacy State Development Project (MCLSD).
This program provides funds to advance literacy skills using evidence-based practices, strategies, and interventions for children preschool through 12th grade, with an emphasis on disadvantaged children.
Local school districts awarded include Rocky Boy, Chester-Joplin-Inverness and Browning. Rocky Boy is eligible for $187,500 in year 1 and $375,000 in years 2-5. Chester-Joplin-Inverness is eligible for $150,000 in year 1 and $300,000 in years 2-5. Browning is eligible for $225,000 in year one and $450,000 in years 2-5.
Eligible district sub-grants consisted of a gap analysis of student literacy data to identify where an increased focus in instruction is needed to meet the needs of identified disadvantaged student groups. Through this identification, districts proposed high-quality plans for improvement in teaching and learning that will be monitored through a Continuous Improvement Cycle.
