HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Last week, the state of Montana issued a warrant for the arrest of a man who allegedly dragged a dog behind his pickup truck for 2 miles.
Henry Craig Frank, 54, of Box Elder was arrested March 18 on two felony counts, including aggravated animal cruelty and tampering with witnesses and informants.
On March 12, Witnesses saw Frank dragging a white pit bull alongside a large piece of wood behind a brown GMC pickup truck . The witnesses reported that Frank continued to drive even after the dog fell off the leash.
Chief Deputy Frederic Munfrada of the Hill County Sheriff’s Office said, when he arrived at the scene, the dog was covered in blood and though the dog was still breathing, it could not move as it had numerous lacerations, broken ribs and a scrape that exposed bone.
When confronted, Frank admitted to dragging the dog but claimed it was all an accident. He later tested positive for alcohol use.
Initially, the Rocky Boy Police brought Frank into custody but he quickly bonded out and then began to send threatening messages to the witnesses with his wife.
Frank’s bail has been set to $50,000.
