MDT Says Staffing Shortages Could Impact Winter Operations

HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) has announced that winter operations may be impacted due to staffing shortages, especially when it comes to snowplow operators.

A press release from MDT says that they are around 50 percent short of the number of seasonal snowplow operators needed to be fully staffed.

Without additional staff, they say it “may take much longer to clear Montana’s roadways than in recent years.

MDT says they will work proactively to clear highways by shifting crews to affected areas when possible. They have enlisted all employees with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to assist with plowing snow and will continue hiring efforts for additional seasonal staff for this upcoming
