HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The U.S. Customs and Border Protection will be holding town hall meetings over the next few days to receive feedback from the community, stakeholders, and government representatives on the adjustment of hours of operation at four ports of entry across the Hi-Line. Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte will have staff members at the meetings as he fights to keep the ports’ current hours to allow commerce across the border.
“So the fact that we have $700 million of commerce, Montana ag products predominantly, going into Canada every year and they’re trying to save $180,000. This is pennywise and pound-foolish.”
Gianforte encourages people to attend one of these meetings to let CBP know how important these ports are.
“They’re starting to get a little sense of how much space is involved up here in northern Montana to experience it personally and really understand first-hand from the community the kind of impact it would have if these ports were closed. So I encourage folks to go to these meetings and let their voice be heard.”
The meetings will be on Friday at 5 PM at the Glasgow Senior Citizens Center, Saturday at 2 PM at the Great Northern Hotel Conference room in Malta, Monday 5 PM at the Richardson Theater in Scobey and on Tuesday at 5 PM at the Sheridan County Civic Center in Plentywood.
