HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Attorney General Tim Fox is warning Montanans about a scam where call centers are posing as local tow truck companies.
The Montana Highway Patrol recently learned of the scam, in which people have created fake company listings with fake reviews that appear when customers use popular search engines.
However, when customers call the companies for service, they are connected to an out-of-state call center whose representative demand the caller’s credit card information.
In a press release, Fox says that legitimate tow truck companies won’t ask for your credit card information until the service is completed. Additionally, tow trucks from certified companies will have a Letter of Appointment from the MHP and an inspection sticker on their window.
