HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The MSU-Northern Alumni Foundation is on the last lap to fund phase one of the new football stadium.
MSU-Northern Alumni Foundation Executive Director Shantel Cronk said they have raised all but $380,000 of the $3 million needed.
“This first phase was about a $3 million dollar project. We have raised all but $380,000 and all of that money has come from private donors and the community. So, this is a community effort, this is something exciting happening and we appreciate the support.”
Cronk said the foundation’s goal is to completing phase one no later than the last week of September, so the football team can have the field for their first home game.
“With COVID, ironically it kind of worked to our advantage because initially the football season was going to start early in August and we knew we probably wouldn’t have all the details in by then, but now the football team actually starts the very last week of September. So, that gives us some breathing room. We could actually play all of our home games potentially at the new field which would be really exciting.”
Cronk said this football stadium will not only benefit the sports team but the community as well.
“This is going to be an economic engine for the entire community. This is going to be bringing people to town. We can do summer camps there. We can do concerts there. Potentially we will be having the college graduation outside at the field instead of versus, you know, shoving everybody into the Armory Gymnasium like we’ve been doing for years.”
Moving forward, Cronk said the foundation will be holding various events the next couple of months to help finish fundraising phase one.
“So, in the next few weeks we actually have a local event we are doing with a small group of supporters and then we are also going over to Cutbank this coming Wednesday to meet with some supporters over there. In July, we are going to the opposite side of the state over to Scobey and meeting with some people there. So, we are still reaching out, we still are raising funds.”
