The Frontier Conference continued with basketball media days on Wednesday. The women’s programs took center stage, including MSU-Northern. The Skylights finished the 2022-23 campaign with an (8-21) overall record and only one win in conference play.
Head coach Chris Mouat reflected on the struggles of last season, but was able to quickly turn the page to preview just how much of the team is back for this season.
“We have a lot back,” Mouat said. “Last year was hard for us, but (I’m) proud of that team in a lot of ways for hanging in there and playing their best in the end.”
“We return ten kids, seven of which have started for us at one time or another,” Mouat continued. “We added three junior-college kids that I like. We like where we’re at.”
Mouat discussed a unique strategy that his team took on this offseason that isn’t normal for sharing right before the start of play.
“We started a little bit later than everyone else,” Mouat said. “We wanted to focus on a lot more shooting and lifting and conditioning.”
“We’re a little behind when it comes to X’s and O’s I think, but we’ll keep working at it.” Mouat continued.”
The Skylights open up play on the court on Oct. 30 with an exhibition in Winifried against MSU-Billings.
