(NMB) The MSU Northern Wrestling team will get on the mat for the first time this year on Saturday for their annual alumni match. Head Coach Tyson Thivierge says it’s nice to have the alumni come back to the program and an opportunity for his team to get out and compete. “It’ll be our first competition of the year. You know, shortened periods, that’s for the alumni. But just a chance to get out there and compete. Some of the old guys come back, show why they were who they were and teach a couple lessons here and there.”
There are 18 matches confirmed and some of the alumni scheduled to wrestle are Matt and Brandon Weber, Ben Stroh, and Isaac Bartel. Coach Thivierge says what he’s looking for from his team. “This one, we’re just looking for them to go out there and compete. Not be scared to shoot. We’ve really been stressing taking chances. These are the opportunities to do that, it’s not going to hurt you to go out there and take a chance. Put yourself in scoring opportunities. So, that’s really what we’re looking for, we’re looking for scoring opportunities and wrestling for a full period.”
The MSU Northern wrestling alumni match starts at 2pm Saturday in the Armory Gym.
