HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – On Saturday, people braved the cold and snowy roads to attend MSU-Northern’s annual fundraiser ball. Alumni Foundation Executive Director Jim Bennett says this event is to raise money for student scholarships at Northern. Last year they raised about $28,000.
“Our goal for the evening was to raise, well we said $20,000 and then actually, we pushed our goal up to $25,000 and we ended up raising almost $30,000 that evening. And so, you know, we had some people that weren’t able to attend and sent in a contribution early.”
Bennett says that this money will allow them to give out $1,000 scholarships to Northern students.
“You know, we don’t really have any specific criteria for it, other than there is a committee of faculty and staff at Northern that, you know, they kind of bring their ideas to the table and everybody sits down. And then, like I said, they’re really able to be flexible with that money, but make sure that it goes to those students that need it the most.”
Bennett says their “Beach Ball” theme was well received, especially with the cold weather recently. If people have suggestions on a theme for next year, they’re encouraged to call the Alumni Foundation at 265-3711.
