HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Dr. Randy Bachmeier and Dr. Curtis Smeby have been conducting interviews with program administrators, leaders, and focus groups to acquire a sense of why the number of students who are non-completers is increasing across the country and in the state.
A press release says that outcomes of the research will include development and implementation of training curriculum and modules, which will be offered to AmeriCorps and VISTA members in Montana. Bachmeier and Smeby will be presenting three workshops at the Serve Montana Symposium called Service: The Heart of Montana held on March 6th though 8th at Carroll College in Helena.
The researchers are identifying themes that cross-reference the literature as to components of change and how it can effect resilience of program members.
Bachmeier and Smeby were awarded the Montana Campus Compact Pathways of Community Change research grant last November. The broad focus of the research is to identify current strategies and approaches to build civil discourse, teach the spectrum of community and social change work, and better connect aspects of national service experiences as building blocks for future community change work.
