New Drug Enforcement Unit in Rocky Boy Appears Successful

ROCKY BOY, Mont. (NMB) – The Rocky Boy Police Department formed a new Drug Enforcement Unit comprised of current patrol officers to combat illegal drug sales on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation. A press release says that the objective with the unit is to investigate and present federal felony drug cases directly to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The Drug Enforcement Unit is a response and in relation to the Chippewa Cree Tribes’ initiative to combat narcotics and educate the community. The planning of the DEU began in October 2018 when the Project War Shield coordinator position was filled by a retired BIA Drug Enforcement Supervisor. The Rocky Boy Police Department began the DEU strategic Operations in the middle of December. In the last two weeks, the Patrol Division, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Unit have made several arrests and hauled in over 750 grams of methamphetamine, 5.5 grams of black tar heroin, five firearms including an assault rifle, opioid pills and $11,000 in cash.

The aggressive efforts to eradicate drug distribution in Rocky Boy will continue with hopes that the Drug Enforcement Unit will expand its division in the future.
