MSU-Northern was swept in Frontier Conference action on Saturday afternoon with the Skylights losing, (60-53) to the No. 25 Providence Lady Argos and the Lights losing a lead late, falling to Providence, (68-59).
The Skylights, (11-11, 2-7) played well throughout, but were just outmatched when it came to the paint. Specifically, Keanna Salave’a was a one-person wrecking crew, putting up 25 points and 15 rebounds on her way to a probable Frontier Conference Player of the Week honor. The Skylights were down double-digits to begin the fourth quarter, but were able to rally to within a single possession multiple times late before the No. 25 team in the country pulled away. Shyan Krass was the leading point getter for Northern with 12 and was joined in double-figures by Canzas HisBadHorse and Becky Melcher, who had 11 and 10, respectively.
For the Northern Lights (7-15, 1-8), they led at the half by one, (30-29). They also led until the four-minute mark of the second half, when Jamil Bowles took over. The Providence wing had 19 of his 23 points in the final 20 minutes, including starting a team charge that resulted in an (18-7) run to close the game out. Antoine Boyd Jr. was the only other Argo in double-figures after having 13. The Lights got a quality outing from Jack Reardon, who had 18 points and was aggressive throughout the contest. Two other Northern teammates joined him at the top of the score sheet as Leon Sayers IV finished with 12 points and Raefe McEnroe put in 10.
Northern will hit the road for a Thursday night tilt in Helena, taking on Carroll College. Coverage begins on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com around 5pm as the Skylights play first, followed by the Lights around 7pm.
