The MSU-Northern Lights basketball team had a close (61-59) loss this past Saturday to the University of Providence. Northern had a chance to win the game on the last possession, but fell short on a missed 3-point jumper at the horn. New Media Broadcasters caught up with Lights coach Shawn Huse and said what he took the listeners inside the final play and what he took away from the 40 minutes in Great Falls.
“(There was) certainly some confusion on the alignment of what we were supposed to do when we got out there,” Huse said. “Then we got into a simple ball screen (with) a pretty clean look.”
“There was a lot of things that went on throughout that we could have done a little bit better and had the lead right there,” Huse continued. “At the same time, there was a lot of really good things that we did out there to put us in that position. We just have to learn from all of it.”
The Lights will take on Carroll College on Thursday night from the Armory Gym in the next Frontier Conference matchup. Huse said preparations have been made for the game and shared how his guys have shaped themselves this season.
“You have to look at their team and all their personnel,” Huse said. “They have a guy (Andrew Cook) that’s really scoring well and inside presence, shooting, the whole thing.”
“There’s a lot of things to consider defensively and we’ll do our best to put together a solid gameplan,” Huse continued. “I think our guys are playing with a little more confidence now and they know that they are getting to their full potential (and) that they can do this.”
The Lights (10-12, 2-7) and Fighting Saints (13-9, 7-2) will take on the court Thursday night at 7pm from the Armory Gym. Listen to Noah Friedman’s commentary on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com.
