Northern Cheyenne Council Removes President

LAME DEER, Mont. (NMB) – NBC Montana reports that in an 8-2 vote on Wednesday, the Northern Cheyenne Tribal Council voted to remove President Donna Fisher from office.

The vote came following a six-hour hearing that was called after the Tribal Vice-President accused Fisher of mishandling “a tribal employee’s use of a tribal credit card” by having her Chief of Staff charge $7,000 in unauthorized purchases.

Vice-President Serena Wetherelt will serve as Acting President. However, an election must take place by early May.
