Northstar Doubleheader vs Medicine Hat: Recap 7/19

Havre, MT – With the regular season winding down and momentum building at the perfect time, the Havre Northstars continued their red-hot stretch Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against the Medicine Hat Knights in dramatic fashion.
The opener delivered plenty of excitement, as the Northstars rallied in their final at-bat to stun the Knights, 13-12.
Trailing 12-10 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Havre refused to go quietly. Tyson Brandon sparked the comeback with an RBI single that cut the deficit to one run. Moments later, with the tying and winning runs in scoring position, Kody Standiford delivered the biggest hit of the day, lining a walk-off single into left field to bring home the decisive runs and complete the thrilling comeback victory.
The Northstars’ offense produced throughout the contest, with Archer Sawdey, Quinn Elliot, and Connor Essert each collecting multiple hits in the wild back-and-forth affair.
The Northstars carried that energy into Game 2, overpowering the Knights 14-4 to complete the sweep and push their winning streak to seven games.
Havre wasted no time taking control, erupting for six runs in the bottom of the first inning. RBI knocks from Archer Sawdey, Quinn Elliot, and Kody Standiford fueled the early offensive outburst and gave the Northstars a commanding advantage.
The bats stayed hot in the second inning as Havre plated four more runs, stretching the lead to 10-0 and putting the game firmly out of reach. Tyson Brandon, Kody Standiford, and Brayden McLain each recorded multiple hits as the Northstars continued to showcase the balanced offensive attack that has fueled their recent surge.
On the mound, Michael Thompson turned in a strong performance to earn the victory. The right-hander surrendered just one hit over 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, only one of which was earned, while keeping the Knights’ lineup largely in check.
Now riding a seven-game winning streak and firing on all cylinders, the Northstars will look to carry their late-season momentum into their final doubleheader of the regular season Sunday afternoon against the Lethbridge Miners. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. as Havre aims to close out the regular season on a high note.
