Northstars Coach Wraps Up 2024 Legion ‘A’ Baseball Season

The Havre Northstars concluded the 2024 baseball season over the weekend, going through an incredible run at the North ‘A’ District Tournament before bowing out in the semifinals.

New Media Broadcasters spoke with head coach Patch Wirtzberger and he characterized what his team showed on the diamond during the four-day stretch, going from one loss to rambling through the loser-out section of the bracket.

“I just think each and every game, they learned how to compete at a higher level,” Wirtzberger said. “When their backs were up against the wall, they really played their best.”

“I was pretty proud of the way they came together throughout the tournament and got better each day,” Wirtzberger continued.

Closing the door on his seventh season with the Northstars and his sixth at the helm, Wirtzberger recounted what the 2024 Northstars mean to him and how they continued to be the entertainment of the Havre community during the summer.

“It was a pretty young team on paper and there were ups and downs for sure,” Wirtzberger said. “(There were) really good days and some not-so-good ones.”

“(We) played a really tough schedule and came out of there better than when we started and really made a run at accomplishing our ultimate goal, which was qualifying for the state tournament,” Wirtzberger continued. “Coming one game away from that shows you what kind of competitors they are and what kind of competitors they’ll be in the future as we return most of them next year.”
