Northstars Lose Postseason Opening Game

The Havre Northstars started postseason play on Thursday afternoon, taking on the Tri-County Cardinals for the third time in five days, this time in Lethbridge to open up the 2024 North ‘A’ District Tournament. Unlike last weekend’s sweep, the Northstars dropped this one to the Cardinals, (13-6).

The game started with the Northstars taking the lead on a fielder’s choice in the first inning. The Cardinals countered with four runs in the next inning before Havre was able to get back into it in the bottom of the second with another fielder’s choice to cut the deficit in half to (4-2).

Havre rallied in the late stages of the game, scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth on an error and a play where Tyson Brandon scored before Tanner Delarosa could be tagged out to end the inning to make it (6-4). Tri-County broke the game open with four runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh.

The Northstars will now be in the loser’s bracket of the 2024 North ‘A’ District Tournament. The next matchup will be with the Fort Macleod Royals, who Havre swept twice this season. First pitch will be sometime in the 11am hour from Lethbridge.
