The Havre Northstars played a loser-out game at the 2024 North ‘A’ District Tournament in Lethbridge on Friday afternoon. Led by Tyson Brandon’s two hits and three runs batted in, the Northstars were able to eliminate the Fort Macleod Royals, (9-5).
Like the loss to Tri-County on Thursday, Havre found themselves down early, allowing four runs before finally scoring in the third inning. Catcher Chason Mader got the Northstars on the board with an RBI single to bring home Connor Essert, while Brandon drove two home in the next at-bat to make it a one-run game.
After the Royals got an insurance run in the top of the fourth, they would not score again. The two-headed monster on the mound of Terek Shipp and Asher Sawdey combined for four innings, two hits, and four strikeouts.
The pair would get a huge amount of run support as Havre crossed the plate six times in the final four innings, which included a Colter Solomon little league home run in the bottom of the fifth to score three of the runs. Mader also had a huge day, reaching base three times in four at-bats.
The Northstars will renew their rivalry with the Lewistown Redbirds on Saturday morning at 9am. The winner will move later that day to another game around 5:15pm, while the loser will be eliminated from the 2024 North ‘A’ District Tournament.
