The Havre Northstars came back to play another loser-out contest after staving off elimination earlier Saturday. They were able to claim a (9-5) win against the Medicine Hat Knights to go to the semifinal game of the 2024 North ‘A’ District Tournament.
Game two against Medicine Hat remained scoreless for the first two innings. The Knights struck for four runs in the next two innings. The Northstars roared back, tying the game with all RBI singles. The bases were loaded two batters later and a wild pitch pushed the go-ahead run, which was scored by Chason Mader.
Just like in the game earlier on Saturday afternoon, Quinn Elliot was inserted on the mound and he did his job of recording outs. All in all, he went 2.2 innings of shutout ball and struck out four Medicine Hat hitters. His team gave him insurance at the plate, scoring four times in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. The Knights had the bases loaded in the seventh, but Teegan Solomon was able to pitch out of the jam to end it and move on in the tournament.
The Northstars will now play on Sunday morning at 10am against the Lethbridge Miners with a chance to sneak into the championship game later at 1pm against the Vauxhall Spurs.
