(NMB) The Havre Northstars won their opening game of the North District American Legion Baseball tournament on Thursday evening A come from behind 11 to 10 win over Calgary. The Northstars were down 5 to zero early and head Coach Patch Wirtzberger was proud of the way his team battled. “Resiliency, right. Getting down a couple of different times by not just a couple of runs but a lot, and we were ale to really push some across in some difficult ways, so very proud of the guys.”
Havre will play in a winners bracket game against Vauxhall, who beat Great Falls by a score of 13 to 2 Thursday afternoon. Wirtzberger knows the Northstars will have to play well if they want to continue to advance. “Vauxhall is a really good team, we’re going to have to play really well and clean up some of the mistakes we made tonight. Our pitchers have to be in the zone early. We have to make more plays and get after it at the plate again.”
First Pitch for the Havre versus Vauxhall game is scheduled for 7pm tonight. The North District Tournament continues through Sunday at American Legion Park with the top two teams advancing to the State Tournament in Belgrade.
