Montana Public Radio reports that seven Montanans have had to go to an Emergency Room after taking Ivermectin to try and treat COVID-19.
Ivermectin is commonly used as a horse dewormer and is not authorized for use treating COVID-19 in humans.
The Department of Public Health and Human Services issued a warning against using the drug this week, saying it has not been proven to be effective at preventing or treating COVID-19 and can lead to serious illnesses in those that take it.
Ivermectin has been authorized to be used on humans to treat head lice and parasites, but the product that is on shelves and meant for horses contains numerous ingredients not approved by federal regulators.
