HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A pair of ice fishing tournaments are set to take place in the coming weeks on the Hi-Line.
This Saturday, the Havre Chamber of Commerce is putting on their ice fishing tournament at Fresno Reservoir. There will be a rules meeting that morning at 7:30 AM at Fresno Tavern, with the fishing set to take place from 8 AM to 3:30 PM. Pre-registration is preferred, but same day sign up is available.
There will also be a raffle, with the drawing taking place during the Chili Feed at 4 PM at Fresno Tavern.
On Saturday, February 1, the Chinook Rod and Gun Club will be holding their inaugural Ice Fishing Derby on Dry Fork Reservoir, located five miles north of Chinook.
Chinook Rod and Gun Club President Elmer Zarn says that he’s already heard from people as far away as Cut Bank who are planning on participating, and that this could become an annual event.
“It was something the club decided we wanted to try. So I took the ball and kind of ran with it. We’re going to try and put one on and see what happens, see how much interest we have. If there’s enough interest, we’ll do a bigger and better one next year.”
All sign-up for the Chinook Ice Fishing Derby will take place on site. A rules meeting will take place at 8 AM, with the fishing beginning at 9 AM and concluding at 3 PM.
Zarn says any money made through this tournament will go towards a scholarship fund for high school seniors.
The fee for both events is $25 per angler, with payment having to be via cash or check. The size of cash prizes for largest fish caught will be determined by the number of entrants.
