Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament Helps Clean Havre Skate Park

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Big Sandy native, was in Havre Saturday afternoon to help clean graffiti off of the Skate Park he helped fund and build in 2005.

“I got a call from (Havre Parks and Recreation Director) Chris Inman a couple of years ago, and she said the bowl got hit pretty hard so we came and checked it out,” Ament said. “Unfortunately because of the pandemic, it took us this long to get organized and get here. But I talk to some friends and some skate park companies who told me the product to get.”

Ament says the park belongs to the youth and it is their responsibility to take care of it, which he hopes they do with pride.

“Whenever we build these parks we are always looking for the younger generation to take ownership. It’s their park, they should feel like this is there’s and they should be protective of it and they should keep it in as good as shape as it can be for as long as possible.”

Ament has also helped fund and build 23 skate parks, including locally in Big Sandy, Box Elder, Hays and Malta. For the full interview with Jeff Ament head to the podcast page.
