HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A permanent air quality monitor has been installed on the roof of the Boys and Girls Club of the Hi-Line in Havre this week. Public Health Director Kim Larson says the Department of Environmental Quality installed a temporary air monitor in August and saw a need to make the monitor permanent.
“You’ll be able to see it on the Department of Environmental Quality’s website. They have a “Today’s Air” app that you can click on. And then it brings up a map of Montana and shows all the different monitors around Montana and Havre will be on there. And then you can just click on it and see what our air quality is for that day, and the hours previous.”
Larson said that there was a big gap in monitoring the air quality in our area.
“This last fall, DEQ set up some temporary air quality monitors; here in Havre and then one in Cut Bank. Because along Highway 2 there was one in Malta and there was on in the Flathead Valley, but there was nothing in between. And then the closest one to us going south was in Great Falls.”
Larson says people can stay updated on the current air quality on the Hill County Health Department website and Facebook page, and then on the “Today’s Air” app through the DEQ’s website.
