MSU-Northern women’s basketball played well in defeat against Providence on Saturday. New Media Broadcasters interviewed head coach Chris Mouat after the game and he said what happened down the stretch that made the difference for the visitors.
“(Our players) executed the game plan,” Mouat said. “Obviously, (Providence forward Keanna) Salave’a is really good. She’s a handful and she had a great game.”
“Where she really got to us was the offensive boards and that was the focus for us, but easier said than done sometimes,” Mouat continued. “End of the day, they’re a very good team. They had some kids make some shots when they really needed them and unfortunately we didn’t hit all ours.”
“We rebounded well. We had 12 turnovers, which for us with the amount of pressure that they’re putting on the ball out there,” Mouat said. “(We took) care of the ball and (executed).”
Former football coach Bill Parcells had the famous phrase of saying that your record is who you are. Coach Mouat would disagree with that, highlighting that especially lately, the Skylights have far exceeded what is next to their name.
“I’m nothing but proud of ours kids and I’m also not into the moral victories thing,” Mouat said. “I’m just frustrated with our record because I think we’re better than that.”
“But at the same time, until you win, your record is what it is,” Mouat continued. “I do believe we are going to break through and I think we’ve done that in many ways.”
“A lot of home games coming up. We’re really looking forward to those,” Mouat said. “We (need to) keep getting better during the week.”
