The MSU-Northern Skylights basketball team dropped its first of two games in Hawaii on Saturday, (62-45) to Eastern Oregon. The Skylights only managed double-digit points in two of the four quarters. In each of the quarters where they did score double-digit points, they only won those quarters by a deuce each.
Not a single Northern player had double-figures points. The Skylights were led by Jalen Callender and Ryley Kehr, who each had nine points. Shyan Krass led the team in rebounds with seven.
The Mountaineers had three players in double-figures, led by Bayley Bernnan’s 14 points with Beverly Slater recording a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Sunday’s second game of the Hawaii Thanksgiving Classic saw Northern cruise to a (71-60) win over NCAA Division II opponent and host Chaminade in an exhibition.
The difference was the defense the Skylights put on the Silverswords, holding them to two total points in the third quarter. Northern hit eight of its first nine shots and only surrendered the lead once after allowing a buzzer-beater jumper at the end of the second quarter.
Kehr and Callender again led Northern in scoring, combining for 37 points. Shyann Crass was the third Skylights scorer in double-figures with 10 points.
The Skylights are now (2-3) on the season and will head back to Havre on Wednesday to get set for their home opener on Saturday.
