The MSU-N Skylights volleyball team (12-13, 4-6 in conference) are going to Great Falls to take on Montana Western (18-6, 5-5) in the first round of the Frontier Conference tournament on Friday morning.
The Skylights have not beaten the Bulldogs since Oct. 1, 2022, a stretch of three consecutive losses. Head coach Jerry Wagner looked back on the season and said how the philosophy he has preached can be translated to victory over Western.
“We had goals for the first half of (Frontier) Conference,” Wagner said. “We learned from victory or defeat. If you go back and really look inside of it, we’ve been set up to win every one of these matches.”
The season series did not go in favor of Northern, taking only one of seven possible sets off of Western. Wagner reminisced about the most recent loss at Western back on Oct. 20 and said his team is ready to meet the next challenge because of how they prepare.
“The same things that we’ve been working to correct were in that match,” Wagner said. “We have steadily gotten better. We feel like we have met that goal of taking on the best and being able to influence the matches with our effort.”
The Skylights and the Bulldogs will do battle at 11am on Friday in Great Falls.
