Great Falls, MT – MSU-Northern Skylights hit the road for a neutral site battle in Great Falls against Waylon Baptist. The Skylights claimed victory 67-41 by controlling every aspect of the game.
MSU-Northern asserted their will early by doubling up Waylon 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. In the second it was more of the same for the Skylights as the put up 16 points and held Waylon to nine points in the quarter to hit the locker room leading (30-16).
The Skylights shifted into a higher offensive gear in the third quarter rattling off five made three pointers early, four of them by Becky Melcher. Melcher scored 13 of her team high 21 points in third quarter helping the Skylights explode for 24 points to build a 24 point lead heading into the final period (54-30).
Northern’s suffocating defense held Waylon Baptist to 23.3% shooting from the field; while the Skylights offense shot an efficient 43.1% from the field and scorched the nets from behind the arch shooting 9 of 18 for a very effective 50%. It was a team effort with four out five Skylight starters to score in double figures.
Northern controlled the glass with 39 rebounds, led by senior center Canzas Hsibadhorse, who finished with her first double double of the season for 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Next up for MSU-Northern Skylights basketball they will be at the University of Providence to open up conference play on Thursday, November 13, with tipoff at 5p.m.
