The annual Montana-Wyoming All-Star basketball games got going in Gillette, WY on Friday night. Here are how the Montana boys’ and girls’ did:
In the 27th annual girls’ game, Montana extended its winning streak to 14 straight games by knocking off Wyoming, (90-68). The girls’ came up five points short of equalling the all-time record for team points in this series. Hallie Neibauer of Chinook entered the record books in double-figures with 10 points. The Sugarbeeters’ former class, Class ‘C’, had the top-3 scorers in the contest with Saco-Whitewater-Hinsdale’s Teegan Erickson dropping 17 points, while Roberts’ Taylee Chirrick had 16 points and Saco-Whitewater-Hinsdale’s Paige Wasson scoring 13 points.
For the boys’, history was made as the 22-game winning streak for the Treasure State was snapped. The Cowboy State got the better of the Treasure State, winning (83-62). The 62 points by Team Montana were the fewest in the 95 games that have been played between these two states. MSU-Northern commit Maurice Redhorn III had 13 points to be one of only three Montana players in double-figures, while Wyoming had six such athletes.
There will be one more chance for each Montana team to try and defeat Wyoming when the scene shifts to Lockwood High School in Billings for more games on Saturday. Tune in to KRYK-101.3FM and HiLineToday.com for all the action beginning at 5pm.
