Update: All major roads in North-Central Montana are now open. MDT and local sheriff’s offices thank Montanas for their patience and understanding during Saturday’s closures.
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – The stretch of US Highway 87 between Great Falls and Loma is likely to remain closed through early Sunday morning.
MDT says high winds are creating a dust storm, causing zero visibility. The closure is from mile posts 0 to 56.
In addition, the stretch of Montana Highway 80 between Fort Benton and Square Butte will also remain closed overnight. Please find an alternate route.
Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter said prior to the closures, there were numerous vehicle accidents with injuries involving Sheriff’s patrol cars. Two deputies and one citizen were being treated for minor injuries on Saturday night.
In addition, MDT has closed US 191 between Judith Gap and Harlowtown because of a fire in the area.
And just before 6 PM Saturday, MDT announced a lane closure for US 2 in Shelby at mile post 278. A leg of a large sign has broken due to high winds and could potentially fall in the lane that is now closed.
The stretch of US 87/US 89/MT 200 between Great Falls and the Armington Junction, and Secondary Road 228 from Highwood to Fort Benton, both reopened late Saturday evening
